Screen Time at 6 Years Old and Visual Function in Early Adolescence

Excessive screen time has been linked to adverse health outcomes in children, including vision-related problems such as myopia. However, very few studies have evaluated the effect of moderate exposure on development visual functions. This study aimed examine association between during middle childhood and color discrimination, contrast sensitivity, short-range acuity 12-year-old children (n = 305) from mother–child PELAGIE cohort (France) for whole sample boys girls separately. Visual functions were assessed using Freiburg Acuity Contrast Test an adapted version Cambridge Color Test. Screen was documented a parent self-report questionnaire. Regression models showed that at 6 years age significantly associated with higher sensitivity across entire 12 age. when controlling covariates, this remained statistically significant only.
